Commonly known as the Turk's head cactus or Texas barrel cactus, is a barrel-shaped cactus native to the Chihuahuan Desert in Texas and Mexico. It is characterized by its large, cylindrical or globular body, prominent ribs, and dense spines, some of which are hooked. The cactus produces vibrant yellow flowers, often with red on the outer petals, and fleshy, edible fruit. This flowers for us in August, one of the latest forms to bloom.
