This cactus is known for its attractive pink flowers and unique spination. This variety, sometimes referred to as a subspecies, is characterized by its short, cylindrical stems, typically around 10-15 cm tall and 4-5 cm thick. The large, showy, slightly scented, pink-purple flowers with a dark burgundy center are a major attraction. Blooming occurs from late April/early May to late June. The fruits are ovoid, green, and up to 28 mm long, with a white pulp.

Height/spread: 15 cm x 30 cm
