While there are many forms of very hardy prickly pear cactus, there are a few thousand other species of cactus, most of which are not as hardy. We offer a small selection of these other varieties, raised from seed, and sold in round 8 cm pots. All of our plants have spent at least 4 years in their pots, and will grow rapidly once they are planted out in soil.

While some of these varieties rated as Zone 5 have proven hardy here in Naramata with temperatures down to -27C, they may require some extra protection in some colder areas. All of these varieties can also be grown indoors, or grown outdoors in containers and then moved inside for winter. We have had great success leaving these inside a garage heated just above freezing, with minimal window light, from mid-October through April without them suffering.
